Immigration Issues

Visa Expiring?

If your visa will expire soon and you plan to leave the University, we need to know about your plans for the future:

Visa Extension Scheme

The University is able to help students who need to extend their Leave to Remain by sending batches of applications to the UK Border Agency (UKBA).

Aid to Full Entitlement

For courses longer than six months, leave should be granted on Code 2 to cover the duration of the course.

Visa Correction Scheme

It is intended that students who were granted insufficient Leave after an application to the British Embassy/High Commission in their country will be given full Leave entitlement without further charge.

Visa Extension: Self Submission

Students needing to extend their Leave to Remain to continue with or complete full-time studies must apply to the Home Office in London.

Visa Problems / Visa Refusals / Invalid or Rejected

Information for students whose visa is refused, invalid or rejected.

Leave of Absence

If you are in the UK and subject to immigration regulations YOUR LEAVE OF ABSENCE WILL NOT BE PROCESSED until you have spoken to a University immigration adviser.

Travelling Abroad - Europe

The Schengen visa, which is valid for three months, allows you to visit EEA countries. If you want to visit only one Schengen Country you need to apply to the Embassy or Consulate of that Country.

Travelling to USA on an Academic Visit

If you are a student on a degree/PhD course and need to go to the USA for University of Sheffield academic purposes, Student Support and Guidance staff will advise you on your application.
