INTERNATIONAL LITERACY CONFERENCE
RESISTING THE STANDARD:
LANGUAGE, LITERACY & POWER
ANNUAL CONFERENCE 26TH - 27TH JUNE
This year’s conference is organised around the theme of ‘Language, Literacy and Power’, and focuses on ways of resisting the policies and procedures that marginalise or even silence minorities or the less powerful. The conference will look at how certain forms of language and literacy have accrued power over other forms - such as dialects, local rituals and processes, vernacular forms of meaning making.
The Conference will be at The University of Sheffield at this address:
Interdisciplinary Centre for the Social Sciences, 219 Portobello, S1 4DP
Please send abstracts to firstname.lastname@example.org by 31st March 2015. Abstracts should be up to 350 words and based on the assumption that presentations will be 30 minutes with 15 minutes discussion.
