Entry requirements for students from Kazakhstan

We have been welcoming students from Kazakhstan for many years and our staff are very familiar with the Kazakhstani education system and qualifications.

High entrance requirements for our degree programmes at Sheffield reflect the quality of the University.

All applicants are required to have an internationally recognised English language qualification such as IELTS or TOEFL. The minimum score that is accepted for entry is IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80. Some departments may require a higher score.

For Entry to Undergraduate Programmes e.g. BSc, BA, BEng/MEng

A variety of qualifications can be considered for direct admission to undergraduate bachelor degree programmes. All applications for undergraduate programmes should be made through UCAS

A Level
Applicants with a minimum of 3 A levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes.

International Baccalaureate

International Baccalaureate diploma holders will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes

Previous studies at a university in Kazakhstan
Applicants who have completed a minimum of one year of a Bachelor´s degree (Bakalavr) with an average grade of at least 4/5 at a recognised university in Kazakhstan will be considered for admission to year one of our undergraduate programmes.

Diploma of Specialised Secondary Education (Diplom o Srednem Spetsialnom Obrazovanii)
Applicants who have completed the Diploma of Specialised Secondary Education (Diplom o Srednem Spetsialnom Obrazovanii) with good grades at a vocational college in Kazakhstan will be considered for admission to year one of our undergraduate programmes.

Sheffield International College

Sheffield International College provides undergraduate foundation programmes specifically designed for students seeking entry into the University of Sheffield.

Applicants who have completed the Certificate of Completed Secondary Education at Grade 11 (Attestat/Svidetel´ stvo o Srednem Obrazovanii) will need to complete a foundation course for entry to year one of our undergraduate programmes.

For Entry to Postgraduate Taught Programmes e.g. MA, MSc

Holders of a good bachelor degree from a recognised university in Kazakhstan will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or masters programmes.

We normally expect student to achieve an overall 'good' grade. We appreciate that the marking schemes in universities in Kazakhstan can differ. If your undergraduate degree is graded on the GPA system, we would usually look for a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0, 3.5 out of 4.33, or 4 out of 5.

For Entry to MBA

Holders of a good bachelor degree from a recognised university in Kazakhstan and at least 3 years´ post-graduation work experience will be considered for direct admission to the MBA. Applicants must be at least 25 years old by the time the programme starts.

Sheffield International College provides pre-Masters programmes specifically designed for students seeking entry into the University of Sheffield.

For Entry to Postgraduate Research Programmes e.g. MPhil, PhD, PhD with Integrated Masters

Holders of a good bachelor degree and a good masters degree from a recognised university in Kazakhstan will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate research programmes.
