Entry requirements for students from India

We have been welcoming students from India for many years and our staff are very familiar with the Indian education system and qualifications.

High entrance requirements for our degree programmes at Sheffield reflect the quality of the University.

All applicants are required to have an internationally recognised English language qualification such as IELTS or TOEFL. The minimum score that is accepted for entry, in line with UKBA regulations, is IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80. Standard XII English Language with at least 70% or above is generally accepted also. Please note that some departments may require a higher score.

For Entry to Undergraduate Programmes e.g. BSc, BA, BEng/ MEng

A variety of qualifications can be considered for direct admission to undergraduate bachelor degree programmes.

Indian Standard XII

Applicants with a minimum aggregate of 75% and 80% in key subjects at Standard XII from the CBSE, ICSE or Maharashtra Board, will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate degree programmes.

Applicants who have followed the West Bengal State Board Standard XII exam with a minimum aggregate of 65% and 70% in key subjects will also be considered for direct admission to undergraduate degree programmes.

Please note some departments will require a higher score.

A Levels Applicants with a minimum of 3 A levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes. Required scores and subjects vary from course to course and can be found in our online prospectus.
International Baccalaureate International Baccalaureate diploma holders will be considered for
direct admission to undergraduate programmes. Required scores and subjects vary from course to course and can be found in our online prospectus.

For Entry to Postgraduate Taught Programmes e.g. MA, MSc

Holders of a 3 year Bachelors Degree Holders of a three year bachelor degree with a minimum of 60% or "first class" from a reputable university will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or taught masters programmes.
Holders of a 4 year Bachelors Degree Holders of a four year bachelor degree in science, engineering or technology degrees with a minimum of 55% or "second class" from a reputable university will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or taught masters programmes.
MBA applicants

As well as suitable qualifications (as per the information above) at least 3-5 years' post-graduation work experience will be necessary for direct admission to our triple accredited MBA.

For Entry to Postgraduate Research Programmes e.g. MPhil, PhD

Holders of a bachelor degree with a minimum of 60% or "first class" from a reputable university and a good masters degree with a minimum of 60% from a recognised university, will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate research programmes.

In exceptional cases, applicants with only a bachelor degree with a minimum of 60% from a reputable university may be considered for direct admission to postgraduate research programmes.
