Entry requirements for students from Australia

We have been welcoming students from Australia for many years and our staff are very familiar with the Australian education system and qualifications.

High entrance requirements for our degree programmes at Sheffield reflect the quality of the University.

For Entry to the University of Sheffield Science and Engineering Foundation Programme

Holders of Australian School Leaving Certificates that satisfy Australian University Matriculation, with the following minimum requirements and high percentages in Maths and Physics will be considered for direct admission to the Science and Engineering Foundation programme:

Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Year 12 Certificate and Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER): X5 T courses min BBBCC and/or 80.15 TER

New South Wales Higher School (Year 12) Certificate and Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER): TER 80.15

Queensland Senior (Year 12) Certificate: 5 High Ach and/or 85 TER

West Australian (Year 12) Certificate of Secondary Graduation: Min 5 – year 12 subjects at BBBBB and/or TER 80.80

South Australian Certificate of Education: 84.84 in TER

Northern Territory (South Australian Certificate) and Tertiary Entrance Score TES: 67 in TES

Victorian Certificate of Education: Average Grade B and/or 80.80 TER

All applications for the Science and Engineering Foundation Programme should be made through UCAS.

For Entry to Undergraduate Programmes e.g. BSc, BA, BEng/MEng

A variety of qualifications can be considered for direct admission to undergraduate bachelor degree programmes.

All applications for undergraduate programmes should be made through UCAS.

A Level

Applicants with a minimum of 3 A levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes.

International Baccalaureate

Applicants with a minimum of 34 points will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes.

Other Qualifications

Australian School Leaving Certificates

Holders of Australian School Leaving Certificates that satisfy Australian University Matriculation or 2 year Associate Diplomas will be considered for entry to Bachelor degree courses, with the following minimum requirements (only holders of 3 year Associate Diplomas will be considered for exemptions to the first year of undergraduate degree courses):

Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Year 12 Certificate and Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER): X5 T courses (including 3 major subjects), min grades BBBCC and/or 80.15 TER

New South Wales Higher School (Year 12) Certificate and Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER): 11 units (including 3 3 unit courses), 80.15 TER

Queensland Senior (Year 12) Certificate: 5 subjects including 5 HA and 2 HA and/or 85 TER

West Australian (Year 12) Certificate of Secondary Graduation: Min 5 – year 12 subjects at BBBBB and/or TER 80.80

South Australian Certificate of Education: 72% aggregate and/or 84.84 TER

Northern Territory (South Australian Certificate) and Tertiary Entrance Score TES: 72% aggregate and/or 67 TES

Victorian Certificate of Education: Average Grade B and/or 80.80 TER

Tasmanian (Year 12) Certificate of Education: 72% aggregate

TAFE Diploma: Passes and merits in all subjects

TAFE Associate Diploma: Merits in all subjects

For Entry to Postgraduate Taught Programmes e.g. MA, MSc

Holders of good bachelor degrees Ordinary/Honours or graduate diplomas with the following minimum requirements will be considered for entry to postgraduate diploma and masters programmes.

Bachelor degree Ordinary: very good pass

Bachelor degree Honours: minimum lower second class honours

Graduate Diploma: successful completion

For Entry to MBA

Holders of good bachelor degrees Ordinary/Honours or graduate diplomas and at least 3 years´ post-graduation work experience will be considered for direct admission to the MBA

Applicants must be at least 25 years old by the time the programme starts.

For Entry to Postgraduate Research Programmes e.g. MPhil, PhD, PhD with Integrated Masters

Holders of good masters degrees by coursework or by research will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate research programmes.
