Koorosh Korfi
Koorosh graduated from The University of Sheffield in 2008 with an MBiolSci Medical Genetics
I was doing a 4-year Master“s degree in Medical Genetics in the department of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (MBB). My course provided us with very organised practical classes as far as updated lectures handled by highly cited scientists in my department. I always dreamed about being in well-equipped molecular biology labs where any imaginable experiment would be possible, well I finally found them in the University of Sheffield. My course was a 4-year Master“s degree which is only offered in this university and my department is amongst the top 5 biomedical sciences departments of the UK. And the city itself is just an amazing place for students.
Sheffield is one of the most convenient places for having a peaceful student life in the UK. It is the safest city and also one of the cheapest cities in the country, as well as a very green and pleasant environment and a fascinating country side, with part of the city in the Peak District National Park. Also the University is located on one of the high class suburbs of the UK. The night life of the city is amazing, too.
Most of the university accommodations has gone under a massive refurbishment in recent years and also newly built semi-private student halls has been opened in the heart of the university.
I was the president of the Persian Society of the University which is the organiser body of so many events for the Persian students. We celebrate our national and traditional ceremonies like our New Year (Norooz) & Wednesday's Fireworks (Chahar-Shanbeh Soori), Yalda night and also we participate in the International events of the university like Intro Fiesta, Food Night, International Cultural Evening, International Games, International Film Week, etc. The society usually has a welcome party celebrating the arrival of newcomers and a few other nights over the terms. My other hobbies included reading historic or novel books, the Internet and hanging out with my friends.
