My first impression when I arrived to Sheffield was exactly the same as the things I had heard and learned about Sheffield in Iran, either from university welcoming DVD or the university representative.
You simply can find lots of benefits here as well as minor issues because there is no absolute perfection in the universe!! As I was concerned about lots of things when I was going to decide about studying abroad, Sheffield can fulfill most of them. One of the most important criteria is the university reputation, and the University of Sheffield is among top universities in the UK, and holds the top places for various departments [according to Times Online university guide 2008].
Sheffield is definitely a good place if you want to have education and fun simultaneously.
There are lots of facilities for students such as several libraries, well equipped laboratories, computer centres and a 24/7 information commons which provides a non stop studying place with different sections and services like quiet studying and group studying rooms which are very popular among students during the exam period.
The student union is awesome in Sheffield and you can find several services like the Student Advice Centre if you need to consult them about any of your issues. It also has information desks, career services, a bank, a cinema and a travel agency etc. The university has it's own bar, pub, cafe and restaurant when it is time for you to run away from studying (but temporarily for sure)!! The city has been announced as one of the safest cities in UK which is a brilliant point. It is located in the middle of UK and you are not going to have a tough winter at all.
So if you want to experience a successful life and education, Sheffield is capable to assist you.
