Sara graduated from The University of Sheffield in 2009 with an MSc (Eng) Advanced Software Engineering
When I decided to come to the UK to study for my masters degree, I was really worried about which university I should choose. After arriving in Sheffield I was so happy with my decision. The reason I chose Sheffield was because of the good ranking of the University. Also, I wanted to be in a city which has a good student atmosphere.
Before I came here a friend of mine who was living in the UK for many years told me that studying in Sheffield is great fun, and now I realize that she was totally right. Since the first day I had arrived in Sheffield, I found many nice friends from different countries. On the other hand, the University Union has many programmes, trips and parties that whenever I felt bored or tired, I knew there was something I could do. I just had to go to the Union and see what was going on.
The other thing I really liked about Sheffield is the city. Basically, Sheffield has many beautiful green places that I loved to go and spend some time there, and on the other hand it is not like a small town and has a nice city centre that I could not avoid going less than once a week.
The city and living here was one part of my life in Sheffield. The other important part was the University and the course I was doing. I got my bachelor degree in Software Engineering, and I really liked programming, so I applied to this course which was covering both sides of programming skills and the research topics of Software Systems. As a part of my course I worked 15 hours a week in epiGenesys which is an IT company run by students. We did everything related to the company ourselves, like marketing, clients meeting and development. Working there was a great experience for me.
Another good thing for me was that I was living in university accommodation which is 5 minutes walk to all my classes and epiGenesys. Also, I had very good flatmates which I spent my time with them when I wanted to take a rest and chat. We learned a lot from each other. I also started learning Spanish and I was so happy with that.
