Shiva graduated from The University of Sheffield in 2008 with an MA  Applied Linguistics

Sara ProfileI am doing a Masters degree in Applied Linguistics in the Department of English.

As students of English Literature, it was always one of friends and I's dreams to find the opportunity to study in the land of those great authors and poets. In the last year of my B.A I decided more firmly to continue my education in an English university. But, I did not know where to start and which university I should choose.

I remember one night searching for something about linguistics, and I came across to the University of Sheffield web page. Telling the truth before that time Sheffield had been just a name for me. I hadn't known anything about the university and even about the city. But everything worked out so quickly!

The first thing which really attracted me was the university web page. It is designed in a way that you can find any information you need so easily. I found out that the Sheffield University is among the highest ranking universities in the world and especially my intended course has a 5* rank which is the highest one. Also, interestingly I found this link where I read Iranian students profiles, their diaries, the university scholarships for Iranian students and also information about their representative in Iran. They all showed the established and good relationship of the University of Sheffield with Iran and I am sure that it is one of many factors considered by Iranian applicants in choosing a foreign university. Meeting the university representative and their ambassador and taking the university language test in Tehran all made the process of my application very smooth and quick.

When I made it and came here I found out how lucky I was that night!

The city of Sheffield is a very green and beautiful city. Located almost at the heart of England it is near many other cities. A great number of the population here are students and that has caused Sheffield to be one of the safest and cheapest cities in the U.K. Apart from the city, I really like my university. We benefit from very good, cited professors, lecturers and many facilities. The university accommodation is very convenient and the libraries are so persuasive that they sometimes keep you in for a long time without making you tired of studying.

Most of student´s spare time is filled with the university´s activities and programmes. The student union of the University of Sheffield has been recognised as the best one in the U.K. It offers so many activities that you will never get bored. Whatever taste you have there is always something for you to do here. I mostly spend my weekends with Give It A Go day trips and have seen many places so far.
I am also a member of the Mexican, Spanish, German, dance and theatre societies and take part in their socialisations whenever I am free. Also the Persian society here is very active and holds ceremonies and parties regularly, where we can enjoy our own food, music and dance.

At the University of Sheffield you will experience a real student life - Full of achievement and enjoyment!
