Ibrahim graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2008 with a BEng Systems and Control Engineering

Before I decided to choose University of Sheffield, I visited quiet a lot of universities and cities in UK. I choose Sheffield because I liked the city as it is large and nice. Moreover the university is very close to city centre and my department which is Automatic Control and Systems Engineering has a good ranking over the UK.

I study systems and control engineering and personally I think it is interesting as I have to study different systems like mechanical systems and electrical systems, but when it comes to programming languages it is a bit difficult.

Sheffield is a city with village atmosphere and I as a Muslim student I can find halal shops and halal take away very close to my department, so that make it much easy for me.

Every Friday night I go to omani society gathering in student union, we sit together and discuss new matters and plan for upcoming activities. Then we usually go to cinema and some times we go bowling. I play football almost every Saturday and sometimes we as a society organise a friendly match between other societies.

I like shopping and I go to meadowhall shopping centre almost every two weeks – one of the largest shopping centres in the UK.

The Peak District

The difficult aspect of coming to Sheffield was settling down in my new accommodation , because I think it takes time to get my head around new area but omani second year students helped me and the showed me almost all restaurants and shops around my house.

My advice is don´t worry, although it is difficult to adapt with new life routine and new atmosphere - making friends will make it much easier.

My second advice is to get involved in societies and sport clubs in student union. I am sure every one can get an activity or club which meet his or her interest because Sheffield has a nice student union, I think its ranking is best in UK.
