Teaching

Since joining the iSchool I have been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and learning. I currently teach two undergraduate modules: Information Systems and Information Society and Information Management in the Digital Economy. In the Information Systems and Information Society module students explore the concept of asymmetry of information and its applications in everyday life; building on their personal experience of using the Internet and social media students also examine networked society phenomena and the implications for relationship development at both individual and societal levels. My teaching involvement in the Information Management in the Digital Economy module is in the areas of electronic commerce business models and consumer information systems. In 2009 the module coordinator, Dr. Jonathan Foster, and I received a Knowledge Transfer funding from the Social Science Faculty at the University to help local micro businesses explore and set up their online presence. The project provided student participants with an opportunity to apply their knowledge of the digital economy and practice their digital skills learned in the university. The project increased the visibility of the University of Sheffield in the local community. I also coordinate two postgraduate modules E-business and E-Commerce and Information Systems in Organisations. The E-Business and E-Commerce module focuses on both concept and practice. The module has received funding from White Rose Centre for Enterprise and from Knowledge Transfer to develop the curriculum by engaging industry experts. The content of the module is continually updated each year; by Dr. Jonathan Foster, who is also involved in the module, and myself in order to ensure that the module is up to date and covers key issues in the digital economy. Given my research background and interest I teach Information Systems in Organisations module with a particular focus on a socio-technical tradition and emphasize the importance of social organization in the management of information systems.

Research interests

Principal research interests are in information systems implementation (broadly understood), and in particular in the areas of use of IT in business, evaluation of information systems, the study of systems in use, and users acceptance of systems. Besides information systems, ecommerce is another area of interest especially in the areas of online consumer behaviours, information systems and technologies that support ecommerce, and ecommerce business.

Module coordinator for Information Society (from 2002-2007), Information Systems in Organisation, and Ebusiness and Ecommerce. Also contributing to other modules including Information Management in the Digital Economy, and Business Intelligence
