Free external borrowers
You may become an external borrower without charge if you fall within one of these categories:
- Graduates of the University of Sheffield *
- Members of the University Court or Council
- Members of staff at the British Film Institute
- Teachers or FE lecturers employed in South Yorkshire; associate University tutors/mentors
- Clergy in the Sheffield area
- Occasional staff who are teaching on University courses
- NHS trainee groups attached to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals
- Members of the Geographical Association
- Members of the Medico-Chirugical Society
- University company staff
- SCONUL Access member
* Only those who have obtained an undergraduate degree or postgraduate doctorate, degree, diploma or certificate.
Fee paying external borrowers
If you do not fall into any of the above groups and still wish to borrow, you may apply to become a fee-paying external borrower by paying an annual subscription. This costs £50 for the year or £15 for three months (incl VAT)
To apply for membership, please go to the University of Sheffield Online Store:
- select Product Catalogue from the left-hand navigation
- select Professional Services from the dropdown menu
- select Library
You will be contacted when your card is ready for collection, usually within 48 hours. You can select the Library site from which to collect your card and you will need to bring in some form of identification and proof of your address.
