Dr Maria-Teresa Speziale, Programme Director for MSc Accounting, Governance and Financial Management, has worked with colleagues in Rome to develop a new international summer school opportunity.

This July, students from Sheffield University Management School studying on the MSc Accounting, Governance and Financial Management and MSc Finance and Accounting, as well as students from the University of Rome Tor Vergata are expected to spend a week in July in Sheffield, before travelling to spend a week in Rome.

This exciting new opportunity aims to offer an interdisciplinary and critical view on some hot themes in accounting and corporate governance, significantly contributing to students developing their skills in sustainability, critical thinking and employability. The summer school will involve guest speakers from profession and industry, allowing students to build international networks and opening new opportunities for collaboration and future employment.

Dr Maria-Teresa Speziale’s connection with the University of Rome Tor Vergata began when she visited their Faculty of Economics as part of the Erasmus+ programme. During her visit, she taught undergraduate and PhD students, whilst having the opportunity to share teaching and research expertise, as well as explore the possibilities for research collaboration. Following her visit, she was invited to join the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Business Research Management (IJBRM).

Professor Fraser McLeay, Interim Dean at Sheffield University Management School, stated “this is the first summer school that we have hosted where students from one of our international partners will visit us, before some of our students visit them. This is an exciting part of a new internationalisation strategy that we have recently launched that is focusing on enhancing global education, as well as research and impact relationships, with high quality mission aligned international partners. We hope that the summer school will grow into an annual event for MSc Accounting, Governance and Financial Management and MSc Finance and Accounting students, and that we can continue to build on the relationship that Maria-Teresa has developed with the University of Rome Tor Vergata to develop research networks and other student exchange possibilities''.
