Students receive Employee of the Year Awards
A group of students from the University of Sheffield were celebrating yesterday (10 June 2010) after receiving Student Employee of the Year Awards.
The awards, which are coordinated by the National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES), recognise and reward the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who effectively combine part-time work with their study commitments.
Six students won Institutional Student Employee Awards, whilst Rachael Steven, a 3rd year English Literature student scooped the North East Student Jobshop Employee of the Year award, after working in the University´s Jobshop alongside her studies.
Rachael Steven, Jobshop Student Employee of the Year for the North East, said: "I´m really pleased to have been nominated and to have won the regional award. Working at the University has been a great experience and everyone has been great to work with. It´s nice to receive recognition for working hard and I´m grateful for the award."
Amy Gray, Jobshop Co-ordinator at the University of Sheffield, said: "It´s great to see students being acknowledged by both their employers and the University for their hard work and we will continue to recognise students´ achievements in the future."
Paul Tobin, President of the Union of Student´s, said: "With the cost of university going up and up, part-time work is vital for many students. These students have shown how beneficial part-time work is, not just to their own budgets, but to local employers as well. They're a credit to the University."
