External Funding Bodies - EU

Many charities, foundations and trusts provide funding for postgraduate study. Some offer full scholarships and others offer smaller awards. Some awards are dedicated to a particular purpose while others have more general eligibility criteria.

Below is a list of some organisations offering funding for postgraduate study. The University is not involved in the selection and award of these scholarships and applications should be made directly to the funding body following the instructions on their website.

Scholarship Details
Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds PhD Fellowships Supports research in biomedicine. Provides a monthly maintenance stipend of 2,000 Euros and support to attend international scientific conferences.
Institution of Mechanical Engineers Postgraduate Research Scholarship For research in Mechanical Engineering. Provides a stipend of £6,500 per year.
Institution of Mechanical Engineers Whitworth Senior Scholarship Awards Awards to assist engineers who are intending to do research. Provides a stipend of £7,500 per year.
Institution of Mechanical Engineers Postgraduate Masters Scholarship For exceptional graduate students who wish to pursue further study in mechanical engineering. Provides a stipend of £6,500 per year.
Royal Aeronautical Society - Centennial Scholarships Postgraduate tuition fees to enable young people to undertake Master’s programmes such as Air Transport Management and Aerospace Vehicle Design.
Funds for Women Graduates - Foundation Grants Women graduates from UK and overseas, up to £4,000 towards the living expenses of one year's academic study or research.
Postgrad.com Various bursaries to the value of £500.
Danish Education Support Agency - Scholarships for Study Abroad Funding for Danish students to complete whole study programmes at master’s level abroad.
Anglo-Danish Society For Danish students whose first degree is from a Danish university or college.
British Council - Entente Cordiale For French students, aged 35 or under, for a postgraduate course at a British University.
Patriciu Foundation For Romanian citizens who have been accepted into a program Master / Doctorate in a foreign university.
Musicians Benevolent Fund Several awards for postgraduate study for exceptional young musicians.
Google – Anita Borg Scholarship Female students with an excellent academic record, an award of €7000 or equivalent per year.
Google Europe Scholarship for Students with Disabilities For students with a disability studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics, or a closely related technical field.
Gen Foundation For study and/or research in the field of biological, chemical, botanical, and food sciences; language, music, and art.
Wingate Scholarships Additional costs in the final year of a PhD/DPhil, e.g. additional fieldwork, dissemination or extension costs.
