Optimisation of the Processing of Green/Recyclable Composites for Reduced Carbon Footprint in Automotive and Sustainable Development Applications

Applications are invited for a three-year, fully funded PhD studentship, open to UK/EU permanent residents only. The successful candidate will be working on developing optimum processing and compounding of natural fibre composites with the possibility of biodegradation and recycling.

The project will involve multi-objective optimisation as the aim will be to reduce the carbon footprint and also to obtain the best quality green composite. The quality of the manufactured composite will be checked to ensure it meets the standard required for automotive and sustainable development applications.

Applicants

Applicants should have a first class degree in mechanical, materials or manufacturing engineering.

The studentship will be funded at the normal rate (full home student fees plus a tax-free grant of up to £15,000), with the opportunity of undertaking additional paid undergraduate teaching.

For informal enquiries and further details about the research project please contact Dr. E Ghassemieh: e.ghassemieh@sheffield.ac.uk.

Interested applicants should initially email a brief CV (please avoid sending large files/excess documents as they will be deleted).
