Science & Engineering Champions
The Science and Engineering Champions are a group of 80 University of Sheffield students who are dedicated to promoting the STEM subjects to young people. They work with the University's Outreach and Access section on a range of activities as well as with their own departments.
Since the scheme started in 2008, the Champions have worked with young people on STEM taster days, mentored students on residential weekends, created video profiles for the web, developed and delivered academic
sessions for inward school visits, revisited their old schools to give talks, represented the University at careers fairs and much more.
The scheme is constantly developing, and the Champions are constantly coming up with ideas for further activities, such as curriculum based videos of science and engineering demonstrations and practical sessions for young people visiting the University.
