One extraordinary place
When you study here you get one of the best student experiences in the UK – and that's according to the people who matter most, our students. The University of Sheffield is in the top three nationally for offering the best student experience, as voted for by students in the 2016 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey.
The survey asked for feedback on those areas that are at the heart of your university experience, including accommodation, student support, social life and the students' union.
Here are some of the reasons why Sheffield is such an extraordinary place to live and study.
The highest standards of accommodation
No. 1 for accommodation: Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2016, 2015, 2014
Our University accommodation has been voted the best in the UK by students – for the third year running.
The majority of our accommodation (85%) is in one of the UK's most affluent districts. Most of it is new (2007–2009) and purpose built. 82% of our rooms are en suite. The student residences are walking distance from campus and we have places in the city centre, just a short walk from lectures.
Whichever location you choose, you'll be part of a supportive community where there's always something happening.
A city like no other
Joint top for social life: Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2016
You'll discover an amazing new place to call home. Sheffield isn't just a backdrop to your degree. Our students play a full and active role in the life of the city. They set up home here and fall in love with the place.
The city, the people, the feeling that anything's possible – it all helps to make our graduates who they are.
The best students' union in the UK
Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2009–2016 and National Student Survey 2011–15
There's more to a successful Students' Union than great cafes, bars and nights out.
Sheffield Students’ Union plays a key role in the lives of our students providing support, representation, activities and entertainment for all. That’s why it has been recognised as the best since 2009.
