Receiving a tax deduction
Alumni and supporters who pay tax in the United States are eligible for tax deductions on the gifts they make in favour of the University.
The University of Sheffield in America, Inc. is the University's sister organization in the United States. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service code. Our tax EIN is 30-0207689.
By making your gift to the University of Sheffield in America, your gift will be tax deductible to the maximum extent allowed under US law. Tax deductions will apply to gifts of cash, shares and property, made either now or in your estate.
Corporate matching gifts
The University of Sheffield in America can also accept tax-deductible contributions from US corporate matching gifts programs. Please send the relevant documents with your donation.
Gifts of stocks and shares
It is easy to donate stocks and shares to the University of Sheffield in America. We work with a brokerage firm to help you to transfer stock, the proceeds of which go to the Alumni Fund or a project of your choice. Please contact Helen Rey in the first instance. Testamentary bequests
Bequests made by US taxpayers to the University of Sheffield in America are deductible for US estate tax purposes, and there is no limit on the amount of charitable estate tax deduction.
Suggested wording for a Will or Codicil, to be discussed with your lawyer:
'I leave, devise and bequeath the sum of $________________ to University of Sheffield in America, Inc., EIN 30-0207689, a 501(c)(3) organization established under the laws of Delaware, or, if such organization is not still in existence and a 501(c)(3) organization, then to the University of Sheffield in Sheffield, UK.'
