Profile

My career in music began as a songwriter and performer. I played in bands and studied Popular Music at Bretton Hall College (Leeds University) before establishing a career as a singer-songwriter. I have since released a number of albums, EPs and singles on various labels and played hundreds of venues and festivals around the UK and Europe, including tours with artists such as Richard Hawley and Bellowhead.

In 2016 I co-founded Hudson Records with record producer Andy Bell. This has given me the opportunity to explore the functioning of the independent music industries from a different angle, working with artists such as Jon Boden and Karine Polwart.

In addition to running album campaigns, Hudson Records has co-produced live projects and live-streamed events with organisations such as Sage Gateshead and the Natural History Museum. 2021 saw the launch of a co-operative subscription model for the label.

As a director of non-profit arts organisations Sheffield Creative Guild and Hudson Unearth I have been involved in securing funding for and delivering a range of community and education-focused music projects such as Unearth Songwriting and student-run Storrs Records.

In my university role as director of the MA in Music Management I am most interested in exploring the opportunities for music makers and music managers to be proactive in shaping the future of the music sector.
