When and how you apply depends on what kind of offer you hold – though the process is pretty straightforward, and we help you every step of the way.
We make it simple
Once you’ve accepted your offer you can start looking for your new home, and we’re here to help you every step of the way. You’ll receive an email with clear instructions on how to apply, so there’s no reason for you to miss out.
Firm choice self-selection - March to June
Self-selection means you can choose the exact location, building, flat and room when you apply for accommodation.
You can even see who you’ll be living with. Read a bio written by each of your future flatmates, and maybe leave one of your own.
Don’t worry if you can’t find the exact area you’re looking for. We release them in batches so everyone gets a chance – just make sure you check back regularly.
Firm choice preferences - June to July
The self-selection system closes in June, at which point firm offer holders will apply through preferences.
Applying through preferences means you’ll tell us a few things in your application like room type, location, and any special requirements. Then we use these to find the best fit for you.
Insurance, results and clearing
These applications open after results day when you can apply for a room via preferences. Students applying after results day are guaranteed a room, as long as you apply before the deadline.
We have dedicated accommodation for Postgraduate students, which you can apply for via self-selection once you've made the University of Sheffield your firm choice.
If your place at the University of Sheffield International College has been confirmed, you will be invited by email to apply for accommodation (you’ll need to wait for an email from ‘email@example.com')
