Roundtable on Human Rights in North Korea

On October 25th the Centre for Korean Studies held an event looking at the human rights situation in North Korea, co-hosted by the Korea Institute for National Unification and the UK’s All Party Parliamentary Group for North Korea.

Event

We were also joined by a Leverhulme scholar from St John’s College Oxford and a Legal Analyst from the Seoul-based NGO, the Transitional Justice Working Group. The presenters provided a range of new data gathered as part of their research into conditions in North Korea today. They discussed some of the challenges around monitoring events in North Korea, as well as the challenges associated with developing policy approaches aimed at addressing continuing violations of human rights. A number of students from the School of East Asian Studies and across the university joined us for the presentations and lively round of questions afterwards.
