Charlotte completed an MA in Social Work in 2012 at Manchester Metropolitan University and has worked as a social worker and Team Manager in frontline child protection teams for 11 years. In 2021 Charlotte began a NIHR Predoctoral Local Authority Fellowship (https://www.nihr.ac.uk/case-studies/supporting-pre-doctoral-research-training-in-local-authority-settings/29631) and completed an MA in Social Research at The Sheffield Methods Institute. In 2023, Charlotte successfully applied for an NIHR Doctoral Local Authority Fellowship, which she started in September 2023. As part of the Local Authority Academic Fellowships programme, Charlotte remains employed by Manchester City Council to support the building of research capacity within her local authority.

Charlotte’s PhD research is a mixed methods study on the topic of child-to-parent violence and abuse.
Charlotte is also interested in local authority research, child protection, contextual safeguarding and serious youth violence.
Charlotte has completed a research project with her supervisor Dr Michaela Rogers, including a scoping review and practitioner focus groups on the topic of child-to-parent violence and abuse.

Charlotte is teaching sessions on Children’s Safeguarding (Assessment, Planning, Intervention and Review) and the Signs of Safety practice approach on the MA Social Work programme.

Charlotte is a registered social worker with Social Work England (SW89219) and a qualified Social Work Practice Educator.
Charlotte has a City and Guilds Institute of Leadership and Management (Level 5) qualification.
Charlotte is a member of the British Association of Social Workers (BASW), the UK's professional membership organisation for social work.
Charlotte established the Social Research Group within her local authority to promote opportunities for practitioners to undertake research and develop their skills.
