Shaoying joined the Department of Sociological Studies in October 2023 as a PhD student connected to the ESRC Digital Good Network

Shaoying finished her undergraduate study in Public Relations at Sun Yat-sen University with a Bachelor of Management Honours degree, later studied sociology at the Renmin University of China, and gained a Master of Laws degree. From 2020 to 2021, she studied for her second master's degree in Marketing at Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, focusing on consumer behaviour in the digitalisation world. Shaoying previously worked as a service operation trainee at DJI and specialised in customer experience design and optimisation.

Shaoying’s current research interests fall in the intersection of digital well-being and digital disconnections.

My research focuses on the relationships between digital well-being and digital disconnection practices, especially in the inequalities scope as well as non-western perspectives.
