Clearing and Adjustment are ways of applying for undergraduate courses that still have places available. Whether you’ve changed your mind about what you want to do next year, you haven’t been accepted by your original Firm and Insurance choices, or you simply didn’t submit an application in the standard UCAS cycle, Clearing and Adjustment gives you the chance to find the right course for you.

How to apply through Clearing

Already got your results?

It’s a myth that clearing starts on A Level Results Day. If you’ve already got your results you can apply for a place now.

Apply via UCAS Track or register with UCAS

Expecting your results in August?

Advance Registration

If you’re not already holding a Sheffield offer and think you might like to study with us, from 5 July you can Advance Register your interest by completing our form.

Advance Register

  • Simply enter your details and tell us what course or courses you’re interested in.
  • We’ll email you on the morning of Tuesday 10 August, and if we have places available on your course, all you’ll need to do is add your grades via the link we provide.
  • Your completed application will be reviewed by our team and then we’ll either email or call you to let you know our decision.
  • If we offer you a place, you can choose to accept it via our helpline or website.
  • Once you’ve accepted your offer, you’ll need to submit a formal Clearing application via your UCAS Track page.

A Level results day

You can also apply to us once you’ve got your results. Anyone who has their grades can apply through Clearing, even if you didn’t originally apply through UCAS

  • From 8.30am on Tuesday 10 August you can browse our vacancies and entry requirements.
  • You’ll then need to submit an application through our website at www.sheffield.ac.uk/clearing, or by calling our helpline on 0114 212 9900
  • Your application will be reviewed by our team and we’ll either email or call you to let you know our decision.
  • If we offer you a place, you can accept it via our helpline or website.
  • Once you’ve accepted your offer, you’ll need to submit a formal Clearing application via your UCAS Track page.

    What is Adjustment?

Adjustment is designed for students who have met and exceeded the conditions of their Firm choice. The process for joining us through Adjustment is almost exactly the same as for Clearing.

    • You can still Advance Register your interest before results day, or you can make a new application from results day.
    • When you enter your results, we’ll ask you to select Adjustment or Clearing. If you’ve met and exceeded the conditions of your Firm choice, you should select Adjustment.
    • We’ll consider your application and let you know our decision, and you can accept an offer with us in exactly the same way.
    • The only difference is how we confirm your place at UCAS. For Adjustment applications, you’ll need to register for Adjustment on your UCAS Track page, then we can transfer your application to Sheffield.
