Arriving at the school

You will have booked to visit us from 10am to 12.30pm or from 2pm to 4.30pm on your offer holder day. Please arrive from 30 minutes before your session, as we'll need to scan the QR code from your booking to register you.

Your arrival location is: The Wave, main reception. You can view this on our interactive campus map, and there will also be lots of open day staff and ambassadors around campus to assist you.

If you arrive late for your booked session, please report to the general information stand on the Students’ Union concourse, where event staff will be able to help.

When booking, you'll be able to reserve a place for yourself and one guest at the school activities. To ensure safe venue capacities, the school will be unable to accommodate any non-booked visitors.

However, you're welcome to bring additional guests to accompany you on the day, and we would encourage these guests to take part in our range of central exhibitions and tours while the school activities are running.

1 hour 15 minutesLife as a Data Science Student

Learn first-hand what it’s like to be a Data Science student at the University of Sheffield by spending time with our student ambassadors away from academic staff and parents/supporters, getting to ask the questions you want and finding out more about our students’ experiences inside and outside the classroom.

During this time, parents/supporters from subject areas across the faculty can join a “Supporting our Students in the Faculty of Social Sciences” session, hosted by academic staff. We will share information about the university and faculty, give parents/supporters the opportunity to ask questions they still have, and to chat with other parents/supporters in attendance.

Next, participate in an interactive workshop. We'll start with a short lecture about machine learning in the context of smart watches, and you will then be put into groups to consider machine learning applications that could be developed to address some of the issues raised in the lecture.

For the rest of the day, you'll have time to take part in the central tours and exhibitions detailed in our offer holder day guide.
