Materials Science and Engineering at Sheffield has been ranked 61st in the QS World University Rankings 2023

The department has moved up 13 places in the global league table, from 74th last year to 61st this year, reaffirming its leading position for teaching and research excellence.

The global ranking is the most-consulted independent evaluation; it compiled the rankings of 15,700 subjects offered at 1,594 universities worldwide this year, featuring the expert opinions of over 150,000 academics and contributions from 99,000 employers. 

QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 used five criteria to assess the universities: academic reputation; employer reputation; citations per academic paper; impact of published works; and international research network, which looks at research conducted with global partners
