Alumni speed networking event

On Tuesday 24 February, we were delighted to welcome alumni back to the Department for an evening of speed networking with current students.

Chairman of United Biscuits, David FishThe event was an opportunity for current students to meet with alumni and find out about what career options are available to them, discover what jobs are really like day-to-day and ask the questions they've always had for alumni who were once in their shoes.

In total 37 students, from all year groups, attended the event and met with nine alumni from an array of career destinations including: Regenerys; Rolls Royce Plc; Afion Media Ltd; United Biscuits; Tinsley Bridge Group; Cranfield University; Withers & Rogers and Sheffield Forgemasters Steel Ltd.

Organised by the department and Alumni Volunteering Manager, Emma Packham, the format of the event involved groups of students speaking with each alumni for 10 minutes before rotating to the next alumnus. Prior to the event alumni submitted their profiles so students were able to prepare questions in advance.

The event was followed by an informal networking session over a buffet and drinks reception, where students could continue their conversations with alumni and build confidence in networking with professionals.
