Department to lead on new international network PicoFIB

The Department has been announced as the lead partner for the new international network PicoFIB.

Funded by the Leverhulme Trust, the network will focus on expanding knowledge of gas-ion microscopy.

Professor Beverley Inkson, based within the Department, has been appointed PicoFIB Network Director and is joined by Dr Conny Rodenburg, Dr Amy Gandy and six UK and European partners, and will work together on a concentrated knowledge exchange and training programme.

As materials become more complex it is vitally important to engage with new technologies that can quantify materials with unprecedented detail. The use of gas-ion microscopes offers potential benefits beyond electron microscopy, but is still in its formative stages. The knowledge and experience we will gain from working with our EU and UK Network Partners over the next 3 years will be crucial to expanding our experience and knowledge base of this new Microscopy, and will be of substantial benefit to our Research Programmes.
