Students rate Mechanical Engineering at Sheffield First in the Russell Group for Student Voice, Assessment and Feedback, and Learning Resources

Students have voted our Department of Mechanical Engineering in the top 2 in the Russell Group in the latest National Student Survey (NSS).

Students celebrating

The NSS survey asks all students who are in the final year of their undergraduate studies - in this case, those that graduated this summer - to feedback on their higher education experience, giving their views by answering questions on elements ranging from their academic experience, mental wellbeing, resources, and support.

With the removal of the Overall Satisfaction category from previous years, it’s difficult to determine the top institution this year but it’s clear that Sheffield is one of the top 2.

There are seven themes within the survey, and we’re delighted that our Department was recognised as 1st in the Russell Group for assessment and feedback, learning resources, and student voice.

We were also voted 2nd in the Russell Group for all the remaining areas: teaching, learning and opportunities, academic support, and organisation & management. This demonstrates the high quality of teaching which Mechanical Engineering students receive here in Sheffield.

I’m thrilled that our Department has once again been rated so highly by our students. This is truly testament to the hard work and dedication of our whole staff team. It demonstrates just how important it is to us that we support our students in becoming the best Mechanical Engineers that they can be.
