Patient and Public Involvement

The Mesothelioma UK Research Centre (MURC) hosts a dedicated Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Panel, to ensure our research is in line with the needs and priorities of patients and their family members.

The role of the PPI panel is to give advice and guidance to researchers from the MURC, and to other UK mesothelioma researchers.  The aim in setting up the PPI panel is to harness the skills and perspectives of interested patients, carers and members of the public in order to improve the design, implementation and dissemination of our research.

The video below shows you more about what is involved in being part of our PPI Panel:

We want to maximise the benefit our research brings to patients with mesothelioma and their families, and the best way for us to do that is to involve patients and their families in the design and conduct of our research.

Prof Clare Gardiner, co-director

Anyone with personal experience of mesothelioma can join our PPI panel. This includes patients, family members, friends and interested members of the public. If you are interested in joining the PPI panel please contact Clare Gardiner (c.gardiner@sheffield.ac.uk) or Angela Tod (a.tod@sheffield.ac.uk).

You can read the PPI panel Terms of Reference here.

If you are a mesothelioma researcher or student from anywhere in the UK and you would like to ask our PPI panel for advice about a study, a research proposal or funding bid, please get in touch. Our PPI panel can offer advice on all types of study design and research methods. Please also read our guidance for researchers document, which gives advice on how to get the most from working with our PPI panel.
