AHRC White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities scholarships

The WRoCAH training programme are specifically designed to directly support and enhance your PhD research, develop research skills essential for the 21st century and develop your post-PhD employability whether that is in the academia or beyond.

TWO types of studentship will be offered: Open Competition and Collaborative Doctoral Award (CDA). The table below summarises the differences.

Charles Bryars Organ Scholarship

The Charles Allan Bryars scholarship is earmarked for doctoral research related to the organ. Eligibility criteria: to support the current study of postgraduate organists, who through their playing or research are contributing to organ-related scholarship in the department and beyond.

University Postgraduate Research Committee Scholarships

Each Faculty can offer a range of University of Sheffield Research Scholarships which may include all or some of:

Fees (UK/EU or Overseas) and a full maintenance stipend at the UKRI rate (full-time rate £15,009 in 2019-20). Fees (UK/EU or Overseas) and a half or partial maintenance stipend. Fees only (UK/EU or Overseas) A contribution towards fees and/or maintenance. Access to Research Support funds for conference and other expenses.

Hossein Farmy scholarship

The Hossein Farmy Scholarship covers the cost of the UK tuition fees and provides an annual, tax-free maintenance stipend at the standard UK Research Council rate.

China Scholarship Council

The scholarship will cover University tuition fees, a grant for living costs and one return flight from China to the UK.

Other funding bodies

Many charities, foundations and trusts provide funding for postgraduate study, from small grants to full scholarships. Some are in specific subject areas while others have more general eligibility criteria. PhD project funding

PhD projects are available throughout the year, many of which are funded. Currently available projects are advertised in the PhD projects directory.

Postgraduate doctoral loans

Loans worth up to £25,000 are available to doctoral students studying postgraduate research courses from September 2018.

International students

Please note that international students are eligible to apply for many of the PhD scholarships listed above. Check the eligibility criteria for each section to see if you can apply.
