Visit from the son of the photographer Robert Blomfield, who captured iconic image of the Arts Tower.

The School of Architecture, and the Arts Tower, hosted Will Blomfield, son of street photographer Robert Blomfield who captured an iconic and much loved photograph of the Arts Tower.

Will Blomfield, Renata Tyszczuk and Dan Jary admire the iconic picture

On Thursday Will Blomfield, one of the three sons of street photographer Robert Blomfield, visited the School of Architecture. The School of Architecture is based in the University of Sheffield’s Arts Tower, which features in one of Robert Blomfield’s most iconic photographs.

Robert’s sons had, earlier in the year, gifted a copy of this photograph to the School of Architecture, and so we were incredibly pleased to be able to show the photograph on display and discuss the Arts Tower and his father’s work with Will. The photograph is on display in the School of Architecture’s main reception.

Robert Blomfield practised street photography throughout the UK, from the 1950s to the 1970s. He captured many images of a rapidly changing post-war society.

Will was met by Renata Tyszczuk, Head of the School of Architecture, and Dan Jary, a senior University Teacher, for an informal visit.

You can see Robert Blomfield’s work online.
