Lecturer’s paper shortlisted in top ten papers of 2021

A paper written by Nick Francis, an Associate Lecturer within our Department, has been shortlisted amongst the top ten papers of 2021 published by the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Today’s civil engineering profession was born during the industrial revolution with the vision of ‘harnessing the forces of nature for the benefit of mankind’.  The industry’s alarming environmental impact means that civil engineers must urgently change their impact on the world. 

Nick’s paper, ‘Civil engineers’ role in saving the world: updating the moral basis of the profession’ identifies the four ‘levers’ that civil engineers must pull to put the profession on a sustainable and morally justifiable path.
