Natalka received more offers than she expected in clearing, but after attending a special clearing open day decided that Sheffield was the right choice for her.

I initially intended to study at the University of Warwick, but then I went through clearing and picked the University of Sheffield. It was an easier decision for me to choose Sheffield because I’d actually been to the University before with my brother - he’s a year younger than me and we went to one of the summer open days together when he was picking his options. I really liked the campus when I visited and got a good friendly vibe, and they had a lot to offer with my course that other universities didn’t, such as an anatomy module.

I found the clearing process helpful - I had more offers from universities than I expected! I thought it was going to be stressful getting a place but I had so many great offers to choose from that I had the time to think about which was best for me. Weighing up the pros and cons, Sheffield came out top for me so I decided to choose to study here.

I attended one of the special clearing open days after choosing the University of Sheffield. I thought it was really helpful as it enabled me to look round my department, the Students' Union and also the accommodation. But the best thing about the open day was getting to meet other people who’d been through a similar process and chatting to them about how they were feeling.

Even though it seems scary on the day that you’re having to look for a new university, there’s a lot of help on the phone lines that can help you make the decision and you could end up somewhere that you didn’t expect. Such as myself, I didn’t expect to end up at Sheffield but I love it.

I’ve really enjoyed my time at Sheffield - I’m so glad that clearing brought me here because I’ve made such a variety of friends and so many experiences through not only my course but also stunt cheerleading.

Since I’ve been here I’ve joined the stunt cheer club which was something new that I hadn’t done before. I really enjoyed it as we get to take part in several competitions throughout the year and I’ve made such good friends out of it.

The advice I would give to anyone who’s going through clearing this year would be not to rule any university out because there’s so much opportunity.
