Maker{Futures}

The Maker{Futures} programme supports practitioners to set up makerspaces or run maker sessions in a range of spaces, providing playful and creative ways to develop digital and STEM skills through a STEAM approach that integrates science, technology, engineering and mathematics with the arts. Makerspaces provide the opportunity to tinker and create things using a range of hi and low tech approaches often using a range of materials and tools and may also involve electronics, 3D design and fabrication, computing and coding and other digital applications. 

Maker{Futures}, led by Dr Alison Buxton, is made up of a number of strands aimed to support educators and communities in a range of ways. Maker{Move} is our mobile makerspace that we use to bring making events and opportunities to schools and the general public. We use learning tools such as the Maker{Cycle} and Maker{Mindsets} to support the development of key 21st century skills such as problem solving, creative thinking and collaboration. 

Our Maker{School} programme provides a range of CPD training and mentoring opportunities for primary teachers as well as the opportunity to be involved in a variety of Maker{School} projects, such as the Think like an Engineer programme funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering or the Maker{Box} programme for EYSF settings. 

Our Maker{Museum} strand partners with a range of museums including the V&A, The National Videogames Museum and Sheffield Museums to deliver a range of makerspace events including online home learning activities, under 5’s makerspaces and family events.
