Application Procedure

How can I apply to be an incoming Erasmus+ student at the University of Sheffield?

In order for you to be able to apply, your home university must:

  • Have an active Erasmus+ exchange agreement with the corresponding academic department in Sheffield
  • Have nominated you for a place in good time for the application deadline

Does my university have an Erasmus+ exchange agreement with Sheffield?

Please consult our 'Exchange universities' page for a full list of our Erasmus+ exchange links.

Erasmus+ Exchange Links

Erasmus+ exchange agreements are between specific academic departments. They are not university or faculty wide.

Where is the application form?

Once you have been nominated for a place by your home university, Global Opportunities & Exchanges will automatically send you the link to the on-line application form.

We inform all our Erasmus+ partner universities annually about the nomination procedures.

What supporting documents will I need to provide?

All students need to provide a copy of their latest academic transcript. This can be uploaded digitally in the online application.

The transcript will assist the host department when approving your provisional module choices, and suggesting alternative modules. Your application will not be sent to the host department unless a transcript is provided.

Students who will be studying in the School of Architecture will also need to provide a digital portfolio (max file size 20MB) providing a sample of your work to date.

Do I have to provide evidence of my English language proficiency?

If you are of EU/EEA nationality, you are not required to provide evidence of your English language proficiency, although it may be helpful to your application if you do. You will have the option to upload any English Language proficiency certificates you have to your online application.

If you are of a non-EU/EEA nationality you will need to provide evidence of your English Language proficiency to the University of Sheffield for immigration purposes at least 3 months before your arrival. This also applies to Tier 4 visa applicants.

For more information, please see our webpage: English Language Requirements.

When are the application deadlines?

The application deadlines for 2018-19 are:

  • Autumn entry: 29 June 2018
  • Spring entry: 26 October 2018

These are the deadlines for you to submit your online application. They are not necessarily the dates by which you will have received an acceptance.

What if I miss the deadline?

Global Opportunities & Exchanges processes around 500 incoming Erasmus+ applications each year. In order to maintain an excellent level of service to all our incoming Erasmus+ students, we need to be very organised.

For this reason, we do not accept nominations and applications which reach us after the stated deadlines.

Help! I haven't received the link to the on-line application form!

If you have not received a link to the on-line application form by 22 June 2018 (Autumn arrivals) or 20 October 2018 (Spring arrivals), please contact Global Opportunities & Exchanges immediately:

My home university does not have an Erasmus+ exchange agreement with the University of Sheffield. Can I still apply?

No. You can only apply as a fee-paying visiting student in that case.
