If you're studying one of our healthcare courses or MA Social Work you could be eligible for funding from the NHS.

NHS Learning Support Fund

If you're starting or continuing one of our pre-registration healthcare courses (listed below) you can apply for the NHS Learning Support Fund.

      The Learning Support Fund (LSF) is available for each year of your course, does not have to be repaid and won't affect any other funding you receive for your course. 

      Eligibility

      As well as studying one of the courses listed above you must also be eligible to receive a tuition fee loan and maintenance loan from the Student Loans Company. A full list of eligibility criteria can be found on the Learning Support Fund web site, linked below. 

      What's available

      • A Training Grant of £5,000
      • Parental Support of £2,000 (for students with at least one dependent child under 15 years, or under 17 years if registered with special educational needs)
      • Travel and Dual Accommodation Expenses
      • Exceptional Support Fund for students facing hardship

      Support will be paid in three instalments across the year. 

      How to apply

      To apply you'll need to register and create an NHS LSF account. If you already have an NHS LSF account you'll continue to use this to apply. You can do this using the link below.

      Social Work Bursary

      Students studying the MA Social Work with us may be eligible to receive a Social Work Bursary. The number of bursary places is capped and will be decided by the department before you start your course. Students not in receipt of the Social Work Bursary may be eligible to apply for a postgraduate loan from the Student Loans Company. 

      The bursary is available for each year of your course and does not have to be repaid. 

      Social Work MA

      Eligibility

      The Social Work Bursary is only available to students who are studying in and are ordinarily resident in England. If you live in one of the devolved nations you should apply to the relevant funding agency for support.

      What's available

      • Tuition fee contribution of £4,052
      • Means tested maintenance support up to £6,083.50
      • Placement Travel Allowance of £862.50 
      • Means tested Adult Dependants Grant up to £2,757
      • Parents' Learning Allowance up to £1,573
      • Childcare Allowance up to 85% of childcare costs
      • Disabled Students Allowances - please contact our Disability and Dyslexia Support Service to discuss this further 

      If eligible this support will be available for each year of your course. 

      How to apply

      You can apply for the support via the MyFunding system on the web site linked below. You should check the full list of eligibility criteria before applying. 

      If you are not sure whether the University has or will be allocating you a capped bursary place, you should still make an application as you may be entitled to the support with placement costs.

      You do not need to apply for this grant. Once you have registered on the course the department will confirm your attendance with Health Education England and process your grant.

      Students in receipt of the grant may also be eligible to apply for a postgraduate loan from their relevant funding body.
