Global Leadership Initiative 2018-19

Call for Proposals

Deadline for applications: October 1, 2018

The Faculty of Social Sciences is announcing a Call for Proposals to our academic staff wishing to set up a Global Leadership Initiative in the 2018-19 academic year.

The Global Leadership Initiative (GLI) headlines a suite of activities under the Global Learning Opportunities in the Social Sciences (GLOSS) umbrella. The GLI supports small groups of approx. 8 high-achieving undergraduate and postgraduate taught students to participate in a major international meeting or summit, such as the G7 summit or a UN event.

Accompanied by two academic members of staff with research interests aligned to the meeting/summit, students have the opportunity to work as Policy Analysts. This can involve reviewing the latest policy documents, writing policy briefs, attending press conferences by leaders and ministers, preparing media briefs, and contributing to blogs and social media. The GLI has established a partnership with the Global Policy Journal to publish the work of GLI Policy Analysts via an online platform and an e-journal.

The GLI supports the University’s commitment to engaged learning, ensuring students learn with and from external partners working on real world challenges. We particularly welcome expressions of interest which involve students from a range of disciplinary backgrounds across the social sciences and which include academics from two departments.

Faculty of Social Sciences staff can contact for full details of the application process.
