Alejandra is a PhD student at KU Leuven and an affiliated researcher at the Center for Sustainability and Mining Studies (CEMS) of Universidad del Pacífico. She is interested in exploring how global and local actors engage in power relations and their impact on value chains. Her PhD project focuses on certification schemes for artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) in Peru and the extent to which they can promote a more responsible gold supply.

Alejandra holds a MA in International Development (University of Manchester) and a BA in Sociology (Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú). Her previous experience focused on private foundations and cooperation agencies' role in promoting development agendas in South America.
