Latest information

Visit the current incidents page for the latest information on how adverse weather has affected our campus.

General advice is below.

Information for staff working on campus

In times of adverse weather conditions, or when the usual forms of transport are unavailable, you are normally expected to make every reasonable effort to get into work, using alternative means of transport where available.

However, please do not risk your personal safety and if you have any questions or concerns, speak to your line manager or other relevant department contact.

There may be times when this is not the case and for the safety of staff and students, the University campus will close. In these situations the University or your department will contact you. This will normally be via email and/or the SafeZone app. We will also keep this page updated.

If your child's school is closed or if you have other unforeseen caring responsibilities, please speak to your manager and/or refer to our time off for emergency caring responsibilities policy (staff login required).

Information for students

In the event of snow or other adverse weather conditions, you are expected to attend your lectures and any exams as normal unless advised otherwise by the University.

Even when the usual forms of transport are unavailable, you should make every reasonable effort to reach the University campus/ your exam venue using alternative means, provided it is safe for you to do so.

If you do make every effort to reach your exam and are still unable to attend due to snow, you will need to contact the Exams Team and your department immediately. You can contact the Exams Team via the Student Administration service by phoning +44 114 222 1288.

There is more information on what to do if you miss an exam on the exams webpages (login required).

Should weather conditions be severe and dangerous, the University may close and this page will be updated to reflect that.
