My areas of expertise are strategy and technology innovation management, more specifically the impact of technologies on complex organisational contexts.

I coordinate the Economic and Social Research Council-funded Regional Technology Foresight project. Spanning over two years (2018-2020), the project is aimed at helping UK regions identify, absorb and exploit a variety of technological innovations that can drive transformation across UK manufacturing.

My research and teaching bridge the Information, Knowledge and Innovation Management (IKIM) & the Information Systems (IS) Research Groups.

Ivan holds a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge. The main focus of his research is the emergence and persistence of regional development disparities within capitalist countries, and how they can be overcome, with the UK as the main case study. In addition, focusing on Scotland as the main example, he looked at how regional development disparities can create inter-regional economic conflicts, which, under certain circumstances, can become the basis for separatism.
