About:

This training course is held under the sponsorship of the School of Languages, Arts & Societies at the University of Sheffield. It aims to provide an engaging environment for exploring Arabic corpora in academic and applied contexts.

Expert Contributions: 

Participants will learn from. a distinguished group of academics and practitioners specialising in Arabic language, literature, and religious studies. This will be through practical methods that use linguistic corpora in fields that apply computational analysis.

Practical Applications: 

Participants will gain hands-on experience using corpora and tools that they can apply in research or teaching Arabic in its various forms.

Interactive Sessions:

The course features workshops and group activities addressing cultural and linguistic issues using corpora, which will enrich understanding and develop participants' analytical and research skills.

Join us this summer in the vibrant city of Sheffield, UK, for an in-depth exploration of Arabic corpora and their applications in linguistic, literary, and cultural research. This programme offers a valuable opportunity to develop academic skills and engage with a community of scholars specialising in Arabic studies.

At the end of the course, all participants will receive a training certificate officially accredited by the University of Sheffield.

Literary corpora applications:

  • Case study: Modern Arabic novels 

  • Workshop: Building a mini corpus

  • Cultural narrative analysis

Corpus-based approaches to religious texts:

  • Practical session: analysing texts

  • Text exploration activity

  • MSA vs dialectal Arabic comparison

5Friday 14th November

Advanced applications of corpora: 

  • Dictionary development
