This module will give you the chance to understand the truth behind all the hype, whilst giving you the freedom to explore the application areas you're most interested in!

Module Description
This module will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), providing you with an insight into the technologies themselves, when and how they might be applied, and the broader economic, social and industrial context within which these techniques sit.
Our aim is to provide you with an understanding of the underlying principles and considerations relevant to this area, so that you are able to apply this knowledge confidently and effectively during your future career.
Required Priot Knowledge
No pre-requisites - a general understanding of manufacturing processes would be helpful, but is not specifically required for this module.

Assessment Methods
• 60% Coursework: This is your opportunity, working in groups, to show us that you understand the context and opportunities for Additive Manufacturing by identifying, specifying and justifying a product suitable for production using one of this group of technologies
• 40% Written Exam: Here we will examine you on a selection of the underlying scientific principles related to Additive Manufacturing processes
Module Aims
• Provide you with the key principles of Additive Manufacturing, including technical, financial, and societal implications. - Enable you to differentiate between different processes and process categories, and to determine the most appropriate technique(s) for a given application.
• Introduce you to a variety of industrial applications and motivations related to Additive Manufacturing.
• Equip you with the skills needed to assess new AM systems and applications when appropriate in your future careers.
• Provide you with an introduction to the underlying scientific principles of a variety of AM processes.
International postgraduate taught scholarships
We offer a generous package of financial support for international postgraduate taught students, including scholarships worth £10,000 towards the original tuition fee.
