Jabal, la Montagna (Jabal, the Mountain)

Italy, 2021 – 18’

Directed by Alessio Genovese and created thanks to the “FunKino - Cinema for Inclusion” participatory storytelling methodology

Synopsis

Giusy is tired of living in the centre where she grew up, in between the indifference of the adults and the hostility of her companions. She decides to cut the ties that constrain her and ventures out, alone in the streets of a gray and aggressive Palermo. Her courage compels her to go to the aid of an old wandering poet who, however, vanishes in the heart of a mountain at dusk. Giusy will find her new path.

EU 013, L'ULTIMA FRONTIERA (EU 013, THE LAST FRONTIER)

Italy, 2014 – 62’
Directed by Alessio Genovese

Synopsis

Europe 2013. Every year, in Italy, thousands of foreign citizens are detained in identification and expulsion centers because they lack a regular residency permit. Despite the absence of a judicial conviction and formal determination of guilt, their detention may last up to a year and a half. Administrative detention in Europe is the extreme consequence of border operations inside the Schengen area. For the very first time in Italy, the Home Office authorized access to Identification and Expulsion Centers to a film crew, as documented in this film. During our short visit, the wall of silence surrounding these centers and the people kept inside finally opens up. But, soon after, it closes again in daily indifference. Europe ten years later, nothing has changed.
