The University of Sheffield has been ranked within the top 20 best universities in the UK in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023.

The annual guide places Sheffield 2nd in 'The North' and 20th best university in the UK, up two places from last year, with over 80 per cent of University of Sheffield graduates going into graduate-level employment or further study.

Providing the definitive rankings for UK universities and the most comprehensive overview of higher education in Britain, the ranking includes profiles on 135 universities, making use of the latest data published in the past two months.

The ranking also showed over a 93 per cent completion rate for students studying at the University.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023 provides students and their parents with an invaluable first reference point on the path to finding a university place. It contains full profiles of all universities. The academic league table is made up of eight indicators including student satisfaction with teaching quality and their wider student experience, research quality, graduate prospects, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, student/staff ratios, and degree completion rates.

Professor Koen Lamberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, said: "I am pleased to see the University of Sheffield recognised for its excellent graduate prospects, outstanding student satisfaction and world-class learning and teaching.

“We are committed to equipping our students with the experience and skills to shine in a competitive job market, providing them with a range of opportunities to access placements and internships with globally recognised employers during their studies.

“University of Sheffield graduates go on to make a considerable difference to the world we live in and this is something we are incredibly proud of.”

Earlier this year, students voted University of Sheffield courses as some of the best in the country in the latest National Student Survey (NSS). The University was also ranked as one of the top 100 universities in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2023, reaffirming its position as a leading global university for teaching and research excellence. In addition, the University was named one of the most international universities in the world by Times Higher Education.

The University of Sheffield’s Students’ Union also received recognition in 2022 after being awarded the Whatuni Student Choice Award 2022 for Best Students' Union, for the fifth year running.
