Editors and Publishers Network
Off

Do you have an editorial role for a journal or other publication?

Are you considering taking on an editorial role, or curious about what it involves?

The University of Sheffield is creating a new Editors and Publishers Network to provide networking and support for those with editorial or publishing roles, as well as those interested in finding out more about these activities. The aim of the Network is to better support University of Sheffield editors and to further develop our support and services for publication practices.

The exact scope and remit of the Network will be determined by members’ interests and priorities, but will include opportunities to:

  • Share experiences and expertise, and connect with peers across the University;

  • Work with the University Library to help identify editorial support needs and to develop University guidance and services for colleagues in editorial roles;

  • Engage in mentoring programmes for those new to, or considering, an editorial role;

  • Hear from internal and external speakers from organisations such as the Open Library of the Humanities, White Rose University Press, and more;

  • Explore publishing issues, such as those relating to academic writing, peer review, experimental publishing practices,  open access, publishing and its relationship to issues of research culture and research integrity, and more.

The Network is open to all who are in editorial roles at the university (which may be various editorial or adjacent roles at a journal, or book series editors, for example) as well as the 'editorially-curious'. To join the Network and receive news about future initiatives and events, please sign up using this short webform.

The Chair of the Network is Dr Alisdair McNeill, Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Human Genetics.

The Network is supported by Research England Enhancing Research Culture funding,  and is a key initiative of the Office for Open Research & Scholarship.
