Celebrating PhD VIVA success
Paul Hughes passed his PhD VIVA on 22nd January.
Paul’s thesis focused on developing image processing methods for multi-nuclear magnetic resonance lung images.
He focused on the analysis of hyperpolarised gas (Helium-3 and Xenon-129) and dynamic contrast-enhanced proton and combining these images to better understand respiratory diseases.
Ho-Fung Chan passed his PhD VIVA on 2nd March.
In his thesis, compressed sensing undersampling has facilitated the acquisition of 3D 3He and 129Xe diffusion-weighted MRI in a single breath-hold.
These sequences allow for the derivation of 3D whole lung morphometry mapping to validate quantitative gas diffusion models and investigate clinical and physiological changes in acinar microstructure.
Chris Johns passed his PhD VIVA on 18th April.
Chris evaluated the role of cardiac MRI as a non-invasive test for the diagnosis, phenotyping and assessment of risk in patients with pulmonary hypertension, a disease of the pulmonary circulation with poor quality of life and survival.
