The University of Sheffield

University of Bologna (Italy)

Professor Luca Cristofolini

Professor Luca Cristofolini is a full professor of Biomechanics at the University of Bologna. His research focuses on the musculoskeletal system, including traditional and innovative orthopaedic surgical treatments of the joints and of the spine.

His main expertise relates to multiscale biomechanical in vitro testing, and integration between experimental and numerical methods. He coordinates the Biomechanics group at the Department of Industrial Engineering of UNIBO. He is the treasurer of the European Society of Biomechanics.

Professor Rita Stagni

Professor Rita Stagni is an Associate Professor of Biomechanics at the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering at UNIBO. Her research activity mainly concerns the application of measurement, modelling and control methods in orthopaedics and movement analysis, in both physiological and assisted conditions.

In particular, her research activity focuses on the modelling of human joints, in order to evaluate the biomechanical function of different anatomical structures in determining function in intact and replaced joints.

Professor Cesare Faldini

Professor Cesare Faldini is a Full Professor of Orthopaedics at the Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences of UNIBO, and the Director of the first Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Clinic at Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute.

His scientific expertise includes spinal treatments, and lower limb surgery. He performed more than 6000 surgeries including spine, joint replacements, foot and ankle, paediatrics, upper limb and trauma.

Fin-ceramica Faenza SPA (Italy)

Dr Claudia Fabbi

Dr Claudia Fabbi is a project manager, with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and experience in R&D activities related to the development and optimisation of ceramic materials for treatment of large sized bone defects.

Dr Laura Grillini

Dr Laura Grillini is a researcher and IPR specialist. She is a biomedical engineer with experience in R&D activities related to the optimisation and development of implantable devices and biomaterials for bone regeneration.

Dr Lucia Forte

Dr Lucia Forte is a research chemist with a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry focused on calcium phosphate synthesis with organic molecules. She is actively involved in the research and development of ceramic and composite material in the orthopaedic field.

National Centre for Spinal Disorders (Hungary)

Dr Áron Lazáry

Dr Áron Lazáry MD, PhD is a spine surgeon, the scientific director in NCSD. He has 10 years experience in spine related research, and is affiliated to the Semmelweis University Doctoral School and member of the Department of Musculosceletal Oncology.

His main interest as a surgeon and as a scientist is the development and application of patient-specific surgical techniques for better outcomes.

Peter Ender Eltes

Peter Ender Eltes MD is a pre-doctoral fellow and spine surgeon resident at NCSD. He is the founder and the leader of the in silico Biomechanics Laboratory in the hospital which is unique in its nature. The scientific projects are related to significant clinical problems in spine surgery.

Ansys SAS (Villeurbanne, France)

Dr Michel Rochette

Dr Michel Rochette is Director of Research leading innovation worldwide in the ANSYS group in patient specific simulation and reduced order modelling techniques. He founded a maths SME 20 years ago, focused on acceleration techniques in numeral simulation.

Adagos (Ramonville, France)

Professor Mohamed Masmoudi

Professor Mohamed Masmoudi is the CEO and President of Adagos and a Professor at the University of Toulouse. His contributions to the field of topological gradient characterisation are the basis of the Adagos topologically optimised neural network.

Dr Kateryna Bashtova

Dr Kateryna Bashtova has a PhD in data simulation.

Aesculap AG (Tuttlingen, Germany)

Professor Dr Thomas M Grupp

Professor Dr Thomas M Grupp is the Principal Expert Engineer, Research and Development for Biomechanics, Orthopaedics and Spine.

Alongside his work at Aesculap, he is a full professor of Experimental Orthopaedics and Biomechanics at the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) Munich (Medical faculty) and a lecturer at Hochschule Furtwangen (Engineering faculty).
