Qualifications verification

What is qualifications verification?

Qualifications verification is checking the authenticity of the academic and English language qualifications upon which an offer of a place was based. This ensures that all students are properly qualified to study at the University, which in turn helps to protect the value of a Sheffield degree.

When do we verify qualifications?

From 2021 entry, we're aiming to verify all qualifications as part of the application process. We won't normally issue students with an Unconditional offer until we've established the authenticity of their qualifications.

Very occasionally, we'll ask to see qualifications documents when students register at the University. Therefore we advise all new students to bring their qualifications documents with them when they come to Sheffield.

How do we verify qualifications?

For many applicants, the authenticity of their qualifications is automatically confirmed when we receive their results. This includes undergraduate applicants whose results we receive through UCAS, and postgraduate applicants who have graduated from the University of Sheffield.

For other applicants, we'll normally use the online verification services offered by many exam boards and universities. If your exam board/university has an online verification service, please grant the University of Sheffield access to this.

If your exam board/university doesn't have an online verification service, we may ask them to send an official email confirming your qualifications to verificationteam@sheffield.ac.uk.

If we want to offer you a place but we haven't been able to verify your qualifications, we'll make verifying your qualifications a condition of our offer.
